About Us
FAYA
Nepal is a non-governmental, non-political, and not-for-profit
organization based in Sudurpashchim Province, Nepal. It was founded in
1995 and registered with the District Administration Office in Kailali. Forum
for Awareness and Youth Activity, Nepal (FAYA Nepal) has dedicated itself to
creating a fair and just society in Nepal. Its interventions have empowered
communities to access basic services, enhance
food security, and develop alternative livelihoods while mitigating risks.
Women's rights have been a central focus across all its work. FAYA has actively
participated in civil society networks, contributing significantly to local
rights and social movements. Initially, FAYA focused on youth empowerment
and combating social evils. During 2004 to 2008, the organization adopted a
human rights-based approach (HRBA), joining and leading human rights networks.
It advocated for policies such as equal wages, safe rehabilitation of freed
Kamaiyas, and bolstering women's networks, including the Women's Rights Forum.
FAYA's role in peacebuilding and its partnerships with various organizations
established its reputation as a rights-based developmental and peacebuilding
entity. The strategic plan for 2009-2013 marked FAYA’s entry into the
humanitarian sector with themes including disaster risk reduction, women's
rights, education, and health, along with cross-cutting issues like HIV/AIDS,
gender mainstreaming, and governance. During this period, FAYA emerged as a
prominent humanitarian and developmental organization. In 2014, FAYA
updated its strategy for 2014-2019 to focus on empowering impoverished
communities to access quality services and engage constructively with
authorities. This strategy emphasized social accountability, risk reduction for
food security and livelihoods, support for quality public services, and
women’s agency to combat violence. FAYA implemented projects related to
disaster risk management, climate-resilient agriculture, and community-based
disaster risk reduction, among others. It was also engaged in humanitarian
efforts during emergencies like floods and earthquakes. With the advent of
the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), FAYA aligned its work with global
goals for reducing poverty, enhancing health and education, reducing
inequality, and addressing climate change. The new constitution of Nepal, which
distributes state functions across central, provincial, and local levels, has
supported FAYA's long-standing advocacy for rights of people and local
governance.
In 2019,
FAYA revised its strategy to better align with constitutional rights and global
sustainable development agendas. Its updated vision is "building a
prosperous society," with a mission to "contribute to sustainable
development for prosperity." The goals for 2019-2024 included ensuring a
quality life, decent livelihood, productive human and social capital, safe and
resilient communities, and a civilized society. The revised strategy focused on
advocating for quality basic needs, social justice, women and youth
empowerment, peacebuilding, and resilience. Most recently, FAYA has
reviewed its strategy and adopted a new strategy paper (2024-2030). This new
strategy paper reflects FAYA's consolidated commitment to rights-based
development, peacebuilding, and humanitarian actions with a
more sharpened focus on the evolving needs of Nepali communities and
global development agendas.
The New Vision:
Nepali society is excited to achieve prosperity. As an
instrument of society, FAYA Nepal has derived such excitement of society and
translated it into its long-term vision as 'building a prosperous
society' and we are committed for the same.
Mission:
A prosperous society is the complex whole of
material comfort and emotional pleasure. It can best be achieved through
sustainable development, an economic advancement that includes
social justice, environmental conscience, and a peaceful and democratic way of
life for today and for the future. Therefore, FAYA has made its mission 'contributing
to sustainable development for obtaining prosperity'.
Guiding Instruments:
To
materialize its vision and mission, FAYA has selected two major guiding
instruments: the Sustainable Development Agenda of the United
Nations and the Constitution of Nepal. During this strategic
period, FAYA will concentrate all its efforts and initiatives on realizing,
generalizing, and localizing the SDGs and translate them into practice to
obtain the fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution.
Values:
Transparency and Accountability: FAYA will hold itself accountable for all its
conduct and continue transparency as an organizational culture.
Respect for Diversity: FAYA respects social diversity and strives to
reflect diversity in its team.
Quality and Excellence: FAYA is committed to maintaining the quality of
its efforts and interventions in a global standard.
Social Harmony: All of FAYA's opinions, policies, practices, and
deliveries respect social harmony.
Do No Harm: Respect for social harmony is one of the values
of FAYA Nepal. During planning, programming, and actions, it will take all
possible steps to follow the DNH framework, considering the local context.
Strategic Slogan: "Together
