Sangita Thapa, a teacher at Shivashankar Basic School in Dhangadhi, shares how training under the Quality Education Project led by FAYA Nepal and ActionAid transformed her teaching methods and sparked meaningful behavioral and learning improvements among her students.

After losing her husband, 62-year-old Subhari Chaudhary took the lead in helping her family make ends meet. Encouraging her hesitant son to open a small shop, she secured a loan through a senior citizens' group supported by Faya Nepal. With her determination and support, the shop flourished and is now stocked with goods worth over 500,000 rupees. Today, Subhari and her son not only run a successful business but have also uplifted their family’s livelihood. Her son proudly says, "If I hadn’t listened to my mother, I wouldn’t be the shopkeeper I am today."

During the Field Day celebration of the Farmer’s Field School (FFS), Mr. Upadhya shared that the job opportunities he used to seek in India could be created in his own village if the new rice cultivation technology were adopted. He further remarked, “In my over 30 years of farming experience, I have never seen so many tillers growing from a single seedling, nor such high rice productivity.” He promised not to migrate next year and urged his neighbors to stay in the village, adopt the new technology, and avoid seeking work in India.

Rajendra Rana, once unemployed, started a poultry farm with support from his 75-year-old mother, Bharosa, who took a small loan and offered her social security money to help him. With her encouragement, Rajendra now runs a successful poultry business with 800 chickens, supported by his family of eleven.

With financial support from Reach Out to Asia, in partnership with ActionAid Nepal and FAYA Nepal, Shantikumari is currently studying Veterinary JTA at Shree Krishna Higher Secondary School, Krishnapur, Kanchanpur. Expressing her gratitude, she said, "I am thankful to the organizations that helped fulfill my dream of getting an education."Looking back at her journey, she became emotional and said, "If you have the will, anything is possible."

With the support of the women in her village, Jamuna learned about the Women Empowerment Center run by FAYA Nepal and Oxfam. Hoping for justice, she joined the center. After ongoing discussions, on 16th of Falgun, 2069 , a session was held on the importance, necessity, and procedures of obtaining citizenship, marriage registration, and birth registration certificates.

The Forum, supported by CARE Nepal and FAYA Nepal, worked on addressing women’s issues in Kailali. At that time, the Forum was conducting advocacy classes in villages, including Chaumala. 

The Safe Passage Program, a joint project of FAYA Nepal and CARE Nepal with support from the European Commission, was introduced in our village. The program’s educators shared vital information about HIV and AIDS, focusing on people going abroad for work and their families. Through this program, I learned that young people traveling to India for work are at a higher risk of contracting HIV. Fearing for my husband's safety, I advised him to come back home from India to avoid the risk of infection.

Lalku had enrolled in a rice farming program organized by FAYA Nepal in collaboration with the UN FAO, where he learned about intensive farming methods. After gaining this knowledge, he decided to apply it to his land, which had typically been barren during the winter months. The results exceeded his expectations. Inspired by this success, he rented 10 more kaththas of land and used intensive farming techniques to grow monsoon rice.

Once dependent on day labor to survive, the freed Kamaiyas are now thriving from the jungle's resources. "This work gives me hope that we can achieve something," said Dammer Bahadur Gharte Magar, a freed Kamaiya.

The journey from a barren field to a thriving community forest is a testament to the power of collaboration, vision, and persistence. Jitrani and her team are not just planting trees; they are planting hope for a brighter future for their community.
